The Travelling Workshop visits Bolivia

The Foreign Office invited The Travelling Workshop to go to Bolivia in order to establish a collaboration with Nicobis - a Centre for Communication situated in La Paz - with a view to strengthening the animation environment in the country. This resulted in a long-term animation project, which is still ongoing.

Project Objective
The project's overall objective is to strengthen the creative environment in Bolivia. The project aims broadly at all aspects of the creative process and focuses both on narrative and drawing technical aspects of animation. By enhancing the technical capacity for the Bolivian animators, the project also seeks to provide them with better tools for telling stories of their country and culture in a creative way, which embraces the broad population of all ages.

The project is centred around the production of an animated film, where the theme is 'water' and the consequences which the global environmental changes have on the Bolivian society and culture. Training and activities are all related to the production which happens through collaboration between Danish and Bolivian partners.

'La Abuela Grillo'
Selected Bolivians have been five months in Denmark to produce their own animated film 'La Abuela Grillo'. Visit their blog here.

"Abuela Grillo" premiered in Denmark in December 2009 as part of a Bolivian Climate event arranged by Salaam.dk and supported by the Danish Centre for Culture and Development during the children’s climate summit. The film was screened at The National Museum for students from the 5th to 10th grade who, in addition to seeing the film, got the opportunity to meet the Bolivian filmmakers and hear more about the water war and the shortage of water in Bolivia. Abuela Grillo premiered in La Paz, Bolivia on April 9th 2010.
