The Travelling Workshop visits Russia

Finally it was Russia’s turn, and The Travelling Workshop went there in connection with H.C. Andersen’s 100th birthday; thus, it was obvious the theme of the children’s animated films were to be H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales.

Project objective
The project is established in collaboration with ‘Rosenholm Billedskole’, Hornslet and ‘Sankt Peterborgs Børnhus’. Together with eight Danish schoolchildren, The Travelling Workshop and ‘Rosenholm Billedskole’ went to Russia, where Danish and Russian children produced their own animated films based on ‘The Princess and the Pea’ (Prinsessen på ærten) of H.C. Andersen.

St. Petersborg
The workshop lasted for 10 days and through the progress, the children learned how to create their own manuscripts, storyboards, draw and cut figures, animate, edit and put audio on their animations. The children’s approach working with animation was quite dif-ferent from each other; the Danish children were creative and very imaginative, whereas the Russian children were less skilled with interpretation – in return, they were very good at the technical aspect of the animation work i.e. getting their story filmed.
